From her home in Australia the author writes about the place of her origins, a play about Palestinians, those lost and those keeping memories alive. Stories are told. The nature of storytelling is explored—fantasy, fiction, recollection, reality—forever being recreated, reworded, replayed.
The drama does not lay blame or spotlight victims (there are reckless civilians and sympathetic soldiers) but records fragments about a people’s life, told by women of the intifada. And perhaps, on another level, their story is a metaphor for something universal, something which touches us all.
Winner of the 1994 Prix Italia for fiction, Haya Husseini’s play retains its strenght and importance today. (…)
