Lit.: Parker, Liz: The Lost Jewish Music of 1930s Berlin – Listen here to The New Classical FM Documentary Special. In web Classical FM, 10. 11. 2017 (článek + nahrávka k poslechu). – Cit.: On November 9, 1938, the Nazis carried out a wave of anti-Jewish violence throughout Germany. Today, that date is referred to as Kristallnacht, or the “Night of Broken Glass” … from the windows of synagogues, homes and Jewish-owned businesses senselessly plundered and destroyed. One of those businesses in Berlin was the Semer record label, a home for Jewish composers, songwriters, and performers.
On the anniversary of Kristallnacht, The New Classical FM broadcast this powerful radio documentary from Dan Rosenberg featuring Semer’s original vinyl recordings and the stories behind their creation and survival. Meet the man who embarked on a global mission to track down the entire musical collection, and hear the Semer Ensemble perform this music today. Listen to the full documentary here:
