Pozn.: Pán prstenů je epická fantastická trilogie Johna Ronalda Reuela Tolkiena volně navazující na knihu Hobit. Obě vycházejí ze sbírky příběhů fiktivního světa Arda, která nese jméno Silmarillion, zveřejněné však až později. Trilogie představuje nejdůležitější příběh konce Třetího věku světa Středozemě. Pán prstenů patří mezi nejznámější fantasy příběhy, někdy bývá označována za zakladatelské dílo žánru.
Příběh popisuje klasický konflikt dobra se zlem. Základním úkolem dobra v tomto příběhu je zničit Jeden prsten, který ve spojení se svým pánem Sauronem představuje děsivou ničivou sílu pro celou Středozem. V knize sledujeme sjednocení mnoha národů a ras Středozemě v posledním zápase s Temným pánem. V několika dějových liniích můžeme sledovat jak kolektivní hrdinství vojsk Západu, tak individuální hrdinství a problémy jednotlivých členů původního Společenstva Prstenu.
