Pozn.: Raymond Chandler’s world-weary private-eye leaves the smog of LA on the trail of a killer… Ed Bishop stars as Philip Marlowe in this powerfully atmospheric dramatisation of Raymond Chandler’s novel. They never came tougher than Marlowe, a cynical, world-weary, wise-cracking shamus whose honesty in a dishonest world sent him down the mean streets again and again in search of some kind of justice.Blonde, beautiful and wild, Crystal Kingsley had never exactly been the faithful little wife. But when she’s missing for a month, and then a woman’s body surfaces in an isolated mountain lake, murder-a-day Marlowe is back in business. When the body in the lake turns out not to be Crystal at all – it is in fact one of her neighbours – Philip Marlowe can sniff the beginnings of a mystery. Hired by Derace Kingsley to find his missing wife, Marlowe soon discovers that a few more corpses will turn up before he gets to the bottom of this particular case… In The Lady in the Lake, Chandler abandons his familiar urban milieu. Investigator Philip Marlowe heads to Little Fawn Lake in the hills of southern California to investigate the disappearance of Crystal Kingsley, the wife of wealthy executive Derace Kinglsey. Crystal has left Mr. Kingsley a farewell note indicating that she has run off with their mutual friend. Marlowe discovers a body in the lake, but there’s one glitch it’s not Crystal Kingsley, rather it is a woman who may have been the last to speak with the missing woman.
