Silvestro has worked in the mine since he was 23 years old – now he’s 67. Manlio, at 40, left teaching to go and work in the mine, but to know himself and this new world, had to take on its most infamous job – the time-keeper. He’s now 88.The paths of these two men, different but parallel, meet in 1992 when they barricade themselves into the San Giovanni mine for months – laying explosives across the opening, preventing its closure and the slow desertification of the territory at that time. Years later, after the mines are closed and the desertification advances, Manlio and Silvestro revisit the ghosts of their past.Best Radio Documentary at the Prix Italia and Prix Europa 2018.(….)

Lit.: News, Ansa: “Il Sottosopra” di Casu e Stazi vince il Prix Europa. In web Cagliaripad, 25. 10. 2018 (článek). – Cit.: Il documentario radiofonico “Il Sottosopra” vince a Berlino il Prix Europa. Scritto e diretto da Giuseppe Casu e Gianluca Stazi, che cura anche il suono, è prodotto da Rai Radio3 con la collaborazione di Tratti Documentari. Lo scorso settembre a Capri si è aggiudicato anche il Prix Italia, che non veniva assegnato in questa sezione ad autori italiani dal 1958: l’ultimo a vincere fu Sergio Zavoli con il documentario radiofonico “Clausura”. Realizzato con la collaborazione dei minatori del Sulcis-Iglesiente, “Il Sottosopra” è un viaggio sonoro nelle miniere della Sardegna.

“Abbiamo ascoltato una vera esperienza musicale composta da suoni naturali e ricordi della gente, tutti raccontati con grande tenerezza – si legge nella motivazione della giuria che ha assegnato il premio – Il documentario ha capovolto i nostri preconcetti di questo tipico soggetto sociale con il suo senso dell’umanità e della poesia”. Il lavoro in cinque puntate è andato in onda durante il programma “Tre Soldi”. Nasce da un progetto più ampio, “Tratti in miniera”, da cui sono sbocciate altre ‘perle’, tra cui il documentario cinematografico “L’amore e la follia” del 2012. “Dedichiamo i premi ai minatori, con un pensiero speciale a Manlio Massole, che ci ha lasciato 10 giorni fa a 88 anni – afferma Giuseppe Casu – Il Prix Italia e il Prix Europa costituiscono un grande riconoscimento al nostro modo di raccontare: cercare per ascoltare, rallentare per sentire, interiorizzare e poi restituire. A modo nostro, senza aver paura del vuoto”.
